Improving Local Economies

Investment in the development of the Chuitna Coal Project is projected to exceed $600 million and create the following:

  • Up to 500 direct jobs during construction
  • Up to 350 direct, full-time, year-round jobs during the operating life of the mine
  • Up to an estimated 1200 indirect jobs
  • Taxes and fees payable to the State of Alaska, Alaska Mental Health Land Trust, the Kenai Peninsula Borough and the Tyonek Native Corporation

Funding Alaska Mental Health Trust programs throughout the state

Over the projected 25 year life of the mine, sale of the coal will generate production royalties payable to the Alaska Mental Health Land Trust which are projected by the Trust Land Office to exceed $300 million.
